I have been passionate about CAT since 2003 when I was training as a Clinical Psychologist. I was struggling to understand what the client was telling me, so grabbed a piece of paper and pen and drew out the pattern they were describing. That was my first map! What I loved then and now is how CAT makes complex psychological theory accessible to both people accessing treatment and those providing support. I have used it in my roles across the age range from adolescents to older adults, from primary care to inpatient settings, and in private practice.
I am a CAT Practitioner and accredited supervisor. My commitment to helping others develop their knowledge and use of CAT includes having run many half day “introduction to CAT” sessions and bespoke 2-day skills courses for various organisations. I also use CAT as a consultation tool for NHS care teams, in supervision and reflective practice sessions so that clinicians have a framework for thinking about their therapeutic relationships. I have been involved in the CAT CYMRU course since the planning stage. This has included teaching the last 2 cohorts, marking course assignments and participating in ACAT trainers and supervisors conference.
