I am a Clinical psychologist by background and qualified from Sheffield D.Clin.Psy course in 2000. My first CAT placement was during my clinical training and I was immediately attracted to how helpful it was in making sense of people’s difficulties in a way that felt helpful and non-blaming. I work in a specialist eating disorders service in Swansea in the NHS on four of my working days, with my other day taken up by CAT Cymru. I have previously spent 8 years working in oncology in the 3rd sector, and returned to the NHS and adult mental health in 2024. My interests in CAT sit around the use of generic maps to facilitate relational and psychological understanding in both therapy non-therapy based staff. This can help promote the helpful essence of CAT and relational thinking without the complexity of training in therapy.
I am a CAT therapist, supervisor and trainer. I have been involved in the running of CAT Cymru since its inception and first intake of trainees in 2016. I am a supervisor for the course, I offer academic tutorials to trainees and I am a marker for CAT Cymru and a number of other CAT courses at both practitioner and supervisor level. I have also provided much other teaching and training in CAT both in the UK and abroad. I am a frequent contributor to the ACAT national conference and was part of the conference organising team in 2024.
I have been a trustee of ACAT since July 2024.
